Dulwich LTNs: the winners and losers
Two years ago, few of us had heard of Low Traffic Neighbourhoods (LTNs). Now we have roads closed by planters, roads closed by cameras, and a sharply divided community.
The Dulwich scheme is socially unjust and deeply flawed. It has done nothing to reduce overall car use, increase active travel or improve air quality – it has just shifted traffic from one road to another, causing serious disruption, pollution and congestion.
We thought it was time to sum up who wins and who loses from the Dulwich LTNs. In preparing this summary, it became apparent that all the lobby groups and lobbyists who passionately defend the LTNs have a direct line to the Council, which might explain why opposing views are never taken into account.
